I processed this image four times in four different ways before settling on this one. This was taken from the same crazy kids dentistry as "anyone bring a level ?". So you can imagine that it had crazy colors, which made the decision to monochrome it so difficult.
After countless times of staring at each version and consulting the two best critics I have (my wife and genzapata) I landed on this one.
I have to say that after trying Adobe's Lightroom Beta for about a week I am not too thrilled on it. Do not get me wrong it is a nice piece of software, but it is not exceptional. I think I might have set my hopes a little too high especially after hearing that they bought out Pixmantec's RawShooter. For starters it is a CPU hog. It makes my P4 3.2 HT scream like it is being beaten to death. Secondly I was disapointed that it did not fulfill the promise of being the only step before Photoshop. I was hoping it would do management and organizing as well, but it did not. I will continue to try future betas, if they release them, to see if there are improvements. I do not see how they could have implimented RawShooters technology so fast so maybe we will see those features in a future beta.
On the other hand I have been using the 30 day trial of Phase One's Capture One Pro and I must say it is over the top ridiculous ... that is a good thing. The only bad thing is that once they sold me and I was ready to buy I realized it was $500.00 USD and I simply cannot spring for that right now. But wait ... there is yet good news! I downloaded the LE version and to my delight it has everything I was using and need from the Pro version and it is only $100.00 USD. Now that I can spring for! I will continue the 15 day trial on the Capture One LE version and then most likely be making my purchase. If you have not tried Capture One for processing RAW I suggest grabbing a trial and checking it out.
**UPDATE**
I just found out that Amazon is a retailer for Phase One and has Capture One LE for $79.99! If anyone finds a better deal before my 15 day trial expires let me know.
