Available Light

I made a quick run out to one of my favorite "local" spots last weekend, Black Water Falls. For this trip I wanted to try to capture something other than the waterfalls, so I decided to try to focus on other scenes that I would normally drive/walk by in the middle of the day to see what I could capture IF I was on a road trip and only had one shot at this beautiful place.

I think today in the world of Landscape Photography there is so much emphasis put on just shooting in the golden hours that we miss SO many opportunities to capture amazing images in mid-day light. Myself, like many of us here on Flickr aren't full-time photographers. When we travel there are always time constraints on having to get back to our 9-5's, so we must compromise on being in certain places for "golden hour images" and sacrificing others because they are a stop along the journey.

So in a nutshell I am purposely shooting in mid-day light to train my brain to recognize scenes like this that may be worth shooting and presenting.
