The Ricoh family

I guess I should explain this particular fetish. It all started back in 1987. I bought my first SLR camera then - a Ricoh XR-10. A wonderful companion around the world for many years - true, solid, no nonsense and reliable. In 2000 when I got my first digital point-and-shoot camera it unjustly landed in the cellar. In 2006 I took it out again, dusted it off and started shooting again with it. And the love affair started up again...

Then, one fateful day (who writes this stuff?!), I was shooting photos using a tripod on the edge of a lake, mid-winter. The 300 mm objective on the front of the camera was too much: camera, objective and tripod tipped into the lake and took a good swim in 2 degree lake water. The tripod was ok, the objective as wall once I had dried it off, only my beloved XR-10 had ceased to work. Even after drying it out and caring for it at length - it was all over for her.

So thats when this Ricoh family thing started. All the other family members will never add up to that one camera, which takes its place amongst them (left row, 3rd from the top), silenced forever.

I think all of us have that one camera in our history which amounts to this. That one special camera which we lost, killed or was simply misplaced.

And no children went hungry in the collecting of these cameras!
