1st of the Year...in the 14th Hour

Although many movements on the railroad were obviously seen that day given the territory, a day that prioritized exploration over shooting meant that it would be a good while before the switch next to the D80’s shutter release would be switched ON for a train of any sort to enter frame. By 2:48 in the afternoon on this warm, sunny, 1st day of January, shadows had already claimed the valley where the Little Conemaugh River and NS Pittsburgh Line main lay, but one simply doesn’t fire away from a vantage point like this when an opportunity presents itself. Empty vehicle-train 27N proved to be the fitting subject of the “ceremonial” first train of 2017, seen rounding Jumpover Curve westward from across the valley in Ehrenfeld on it’s descent down the West Slope of the former PRR main line across the Alleghenies.
