Stonyhurst College
Stonyhurst College in the village of Hurst Green, near Preston in the Ribble Valley is the private school where JRR Tolkein's son attended. The story goes that when he visited his son, he stayed at the Shireburn Arms in the village and he began writing Lord of the Rings there. The Shire, home to the Hobbitts at the beginning of the book was said to be named after the Shireburn Arms!
