Our splurge dinner at Grillmarkaðurinn was full of surprises. These were the appetizers and I could have made a meal out of these alone. So what should you expect? Despite looking like beef, whale is almost like tuna in consistency but with much less of a fish taste but leaves no doubt it's from the sea. It lacks strong flavors so the restaurant spiced it up with a chili straw topping, ginger citrus sauce, and homemade wasabi that was the star of the dish. Their smoked puffin was outstanding. Think of it like tender duck and, again, expect to taste the sea. The Arctic char was topped with roe that tended to overpower the fish. Overall, a fabulous start!
