Temminck's Babbler.

Named after the Dutch zoologist Coenraad Jacob Temminck this babbler is normally found in the undergrowth of dense lowland forests in Java and Borneo. We came across this particular example though, high up in the mountains of Northern Borneo.

A quick word on Temminck. He travelled a great deal on account of his father being the treasurer of the Dutch East India Company, he published a series of influential works on the natural world and held several posts including that of the first director of the National Museum of Natural History in Holland. All in all he had fifty 50 animals named after him. 20 including this one were birds.
