Make sure that you have your permit.
A photograph that goes back five years to an exceptional climb of Mount Teide. It was my second attempt having failed the year before with unbelievable ice just 150 feet of ascent from the summit. This time though Mark and I struck lucky with the weather and reached the summit after a six thousand foot climb.
A word of caution to anyone intending on climbing Mount Teide, permits are required to reach the summit and the numbers are restricted. We had ours and they were checked, however there are hundred of tourists who ascend the gondola and expect to be able to climb the last few hundred feet. Alas the police have guards on duty every day the gondola is in use.
Also of note is the amount of sulphuric gas that is emitted from a series of vents. The left hand side of this image shows that a little.
