John is the father of my mate Andy Payne, who as on the same Apprentice Armament Fitters Course as me (1982-1983) and we were both posted to 482 SQN, Amblerley. I would show up unannounced at J.T. and Mrs. Payne's home, usually around dinner time, for pretty much the whole six years I was at Amberley. Their generosity and kinship had a huge influence on my late teens!
