this is the only victoria cross won by fighter command in the battle of britain.aug 16th 1940 saw nicholson attacking,with two others of 249sqdn,3 me110's when they got caught by me109's.hit grieviously by cannon fire,nicholson climbed back in his burning hurricane when bailing out,as he'd seen a me109 in front of him.he shot it down..survived badly burnt..but died 1945..a real hero
