Stories of Excess 5

(cont'd - documents of our excessive consumerism):

Today my daughter informed me indignantly that Australia is the 15th most pollutant country in the world. That is what happens when you're a country that is doing well. More money = More things to buy = More, more, more. Enough is never enough. Want overrules need. I live in a small city. This photo was taken 5 minutes from the city. Hardly the country, let alone suburbia. It's an upscale neighbourhood. I have no idea why anyone would keep so many tyres, or even keep carpets long enough after a renovation. Don't people go to tyre shops to change their tyres so that they can recycle the tyres? And why so many, I wonder? Don't carpet layers take the old carpet away for recycling? Did they spend too much buying their home that they had to change tyres themselves or lay carpets themselves? This is a nation in love with DIY, you see. It's not just the excess, you understand ... It's human behaviour that I am fascinated with as well. We. Are. Weird. Most of all, why didn't they pack all of the small shit they threw out that is behind the tree, into the suitcase they dumped out? We. Can. Be. Inconsiderate. Very.
