"A Light For Others"

It is the day after Christmas; the day after time with loved ones and family; the day after love and laughter as our bellies groan with all the good food and drink, and gifts have been exchanged. Somewhere along the drive from the city into the country I thought about the family and friends of Philip Hughes, an Australian cricketer and Tori Hughes, the Lindt Cafe manager in Martin Place who made several heroic attempts resulting in more lives saved than lost. Both men were in the prime of their lives. One death was the result of a freak cricket accident and the other as he tried to overcome the armed mad man turned hostage-taker. I think of their loved ones as they have had to say "farewell" to these men so near Christmas. There are many other people who will be spending their first Christmas with someone important missing. It is not easy for those left behind. I would think it near impossible to fill a gaping hole so quickly. I think of them as a reminder as to why I have to be grateful every single day. There are many people who have a dark and heavy heart at this time of the year. So I take a moment to think and hold a light up for them because eventually the light will return for them. I hope you will take a moment too.
