Desmognathus ochrophaeus complex

Desmognathus ochrophaeus

May, 2010. Smoky Mountains Nationak Park, Tennessee.

This salamander is most likely a part of what is known as the Desmognathus ochrophaeus complex. These genetic hybrids occur due to overlap in range of the Carolina Dusky Salamander, Ocoee Salamander, and Blue Ridge Dusky Salamander.
