021925_Sahar and bronze melting_02

With the help of Sahar Farjami (first right), Laboratory/Classroom Services Supervisor & Adjunct Lecturer, Jack Eilers (center), Engineering Technician, students pour melted bronze into the molds they created to cast the bronze tools they designed.

The casting is part of the ENGR 100, section 130 Sustainable Materials and User-Centered Design (MSE) class. This is a course about sustainable materials and user-centered engineering design.

In the course, students design, build, test, and iterate on a novel handheld consumer product each student can take home using computer simulation for predicting performance, additive manufacturing tools for fabrication, and comparison of the âreal dealâ to theory to improve design.
