Grace Simon tests the final version of a student project, Speller Eye Tracking (SET), on the final presentation date for projects of an EECS 481 course in the Bob and Betty Beyster Building atrium on December 11, 2013.
SET is an application that controls the cursor on a computer using eye tracking and gaze estimation. The SET keyboard is an on-screen keyboard with multiple input, output, and organization features.
EECS 481 Students in EECS Professor David Chesney's course have been designing systems to make it easier for Grace Simon to communicate, play, or be more independent at school or home.
Simon was diagnosed with cerebal palsy at six months old. While Grace doesn't have the muscle control to speak, extensively sign, or walk, she has a very capable mind that can read and communicate by signaling 'yes' or 'no.'
