Hoverfly taking a bath

Yesterday, while I was lying on my belly taking dewdrop/flower refraction photos (don't laugh - doesn't everyone do that?), I noticed this hoverfly a few inches away from me. He was taking a bath in this tiny drop of water that was hanging from the grass. I watched him for a minute or so - this has got to be the cleanest fly in my neighborhood. He kept dipping his arms in the water and cleaned his entire body. It was especially funny watching him do his back, these guys are so flexible ;-)

 

So..... being the person I am, I *had* to photograph him so here he is. Nice & clean and fresh from a bath. He's probably cleaner than some people I've seen. :-D
