The kiss?
A kiss is just a kiss. But... is this a kiss? Or does someone have a better explanation? This is one of the coolest things I've seen watching through my macro lens to date. Here's what happened....
I was taking a break from the air conditioning (we've been having 95-100 degree f. temperatures for the last several days and I've been staying inside as much as possible) and went out back to take some pics when I noticed that there were wood shavings between a 4x4 post and the 6 foot fence it was attached to. Upon closer examination, I noticed (after he buzzed me, lol) that there was a bee, very busy making himself a new home in the part of the post facing the fence. Woohoo, 2 minutes outside and I found my subject :-D.
After giving him a minute to calm down I walked back and got really close and got a bunch of shots. Then, I noticed that he was going to go back in the hole so I got closer and noticed that there was another bee already in the hole and it was sticking it's head out. Their heads came closer. And closer. Face to face, eye to eye. Screw the fact that it was 97 degrees out and I was sweating like crazy - I was going to get the pics no matter what. Ok, let's face it, for a pic like this, I might have even been willing to get stung because when he buzzed me, he actually bumped into my arm but it didn't stop me from coming back. Nuts? Maybe. Make mine cashews. ;-)
The heat and the promise of an interesting photo does odd things to people, doesn't it? :-D
Here's looking at you, Kid.

These 3 shots are all from the same photo. An overall photo showing the original orientation of the bees, a rotated version so the bees are easier to look at, and a crop for a closer look.
To bee or not to bee? THAT is the question. :-)
