Glen Davis Dawn

Ruins of Glen Davis Old Shale Works - from Glen Davis Lookout. From 1938, Glen Davis became the centre of a revival of the oil shale industry (the impending world war and high price and shortage of supply of oil made shale oil economical). Construction of the Glen Davis Oil Shale Works began in 1938 it first produced shale oil in January 1940. At its peak, the population of the nearby Glen Davis town reached approximately 2000. The works and the associated shale and coal mines were closed and abandoned in May 1952 because the works were no longer profitable.
