TV Delivery! - 1954

Ted and Eunice McNulty didn't tell anyone they were having a television delivered, for fear that everyone and his monkey would descend upon their house, wanting to watch whatever they could.

As luck would have it, no one was around when Nedo Yankello pulled up in his Jeep delivery truck with the 16 inch, upright console, National brand TV set. But when Chuck Ferment was seen assembling the antenna on the roof, the cat was out of the bag on what was happening.

The neighborhood was a-buzz and the excitement was palpable.

This was the best and worst day for the McNultys.

For weeks afterwards, they kept their drapes drawn and didn't answer the door bell in the evening. But they did enjoy the thrilling experience of watching TV.

Shows such as: Name That Tune, I've Got a Secret, Drama At Eight, made spending the $179 for the set well worth it.

On a slightly different note; I happen to have a book that contains the complete TV network programming from 1944 through 1983. Needless to say, it's fascinating reading on so many levels. And back in 1954, there were already plenty of shows to watch.

Here is another photo that features the delivery of a TV set:

Changing the subject, yet again, the background in the photo is one block over from where I live. The neighborhood hasn't changed since the houses were built in the late 1890s, with a few "modern" structures built in the early 20th Century.

I am incredibly lucky to live in such a town.
