Faux-ing the Boat
Working with the re-issued AMT ChrisCraft model still continues. While doing research on the web, I found numerous photos of this boat with it's spectacular woodwork and chrome trim, which got my imagination going to the point where I gave myself the challenge to replicate the look.
I started out by painting the plastic with an automotive primer to prevent any reaction between the paint and the styrene. After that, the model was sprayed with Terra Cotta, satin finish, Krylon paint and left to dry for a week.
Finally, multiple layers of alcohol based wood stain
were applied with a sable brush to create a scaled down grain.
The next step is to paint the bottom of the boat a solid color, then add the chrome trim.
Can't wait to see how it looks on the trailer!
