DCC Fitted Lego Train Powered by Linear DC Supply

This video shows a DCC fitted Lego train powered from a continuously variable DC power supply. The applied motor voltage is measured as a function of applied track voltage. Skip to the end of the video for the graph showing motor voltage vs. track voltage as well as a graph of the current consumption of the decoder at various track voltages.

The conclusion is that you could very easily control a DCC fitted Lego train if you have a continuously variable DC supply available. This same supply can also power unmodified Lego 9V trains as well; as long as you are careful not to exceed 9V to the track. The motor can tolerate voltages above 9V, but not for too long as the power dissipation begins to generate too much heat. Besides, beyond 9V, that train won't remain on the track too long anyway! ;)

Similar type of experiment using Lego's 9V regulator...
