Revisiting a site that features in some of my first Flickr postings - this time the images are much bolder, less straight (for better or worse)...
A couple of members of the Wellington Architectural Centre sketching details of W H Alington's UpperHutt Civic Centre. The structure immediately above is the Council Chamber, which sits above the entry way to the Administration block (sen in the background here). This civic centre is unusual in being completely designed by one architect, in consistent formal langusge - that is until a very recent and somewhat shonk addition of a gallery... but the less said about that the better... The campus includes a library building, a garage for the mobile library, public toilets, the Council Admin and Chambers, a Sports Hall, all built incrementally over time, yet all looking like a single, extremely well considered complex.
Taken on the Wellington Architectural Centre's Brutalism and Bubbles tour... (see wellurban's Friday, March 09, 2007 post here )
PS - I regard this as a fairly horrible image...
More in the Brutalism and Bubbles series...
