Pholiota glutinosa
Scalycaps (Genus Pholiota) are growing on a fallen tree surrounded by bracket fungi (Ganoderma sp.) in a remnant of old growth forest in New Zealand's Bay of Plenty. The genus Pholiota includes mushrooms with scaly, glutinous to dry cap surfaces. They are feeding on dead and decaying wood (saprobes) and act as recyclers of organic matter. Pholiota glutinosa is endemic to New Zealand.
