Shifting sands of Whatipu
Whatipu is located at the southern end of the Waitakere Ranges on the windswept west coast of Auckland, New Zealand. A hundred years ago the sea reached to the bottom of the cliffs. Since the 1940s shifting sands have substantially changed the coast creating a large area of coastal wetlands and dunes where it is easy to forget that you are only an hour away from downtown Auckland.
