The construction of the Efteling Grand Hotel will start after the Summer of 2022.
Preparatory work is in full swing and a large part of the car park has become construction site.
It will be the largest hotel in the history of the theme park. The intention is that from 2024 visitors can stay overnight near the main entrance, on the current Dwarrelplein. The 50 million euro project was confirmed in January.
The complex should feel "grand and inviting", according to Efteling. An "impressive building" of seven floors, with a 106 meter wide facade, is being built. One of the eye-catchers will be a gigantic clock with a pendulum, under a green oxidized copper roof with seven towers.
There will also be a striking glass conservatory with a classic design, spread over two floors. The green square between the main entrance and the Grand Hotel is intended to provide "a pleasant place to stay for hotel guests and park visitors". Visitors will soon enter the park via a 9 meter high and 16 meter wide arcade arch. "An impressive entry", reports the Efteling.
Sander de Bruijn, known for attractions such as Raveleijn, Baron 1898, De Zes Zwanen and Sirocco, has been appointed as chief designer. He was inspired by "elements from the history of the park and by Scandinavian port cities". "In terms of design, this hotel fits in with other characteristic buildings in the Efteling, but gets its own character due to its form and function," says De Bruijn.
