Due to the covid measures in the queue, many themed attributes were not clearly visible or photographable. Like this wooden colorful fence.

The opening of Max & Moritz took place in June 2020 at the beginning of the covid pendemic. We can now see more things again and the queue is now free of screens and other things to keep social distance.

Max & Moritz

Max & Moritz is a double powered family roller coaster that opened on June 20, 2020.

The new attraction is on the site of the Bob. Because the bobsleigh track from 1985 was increasingly under maintenance and no more roller coasters are produced, Efteling decided to install an alternative.

Max & Moritz is suitable for the whole family, especially for children between 4 and 10 years old (from 1 meter tall). The attraction has a high capacity, but no racing element like Joris and the Dragon. The track was built by the German manufacturer MACK Rides and cost 15 million euros. The Swiss theming of the Bob has been retained and the station building has also remained, but with significant changes. Efteling designer Robert-Jaap Jansen was responsible for the design. His colleague Karel Willemen has put many of Jansens ideas on paper, Jeroen Verheij elaborated on the characters.

A story has been linked to the new roller coaster, from which it owes its name. Max und Moritz are two boys from a famous German visual poem from 1865, written and drawn by Wilhelm Busch. The story consists of drawings with a rhyming text line with every print. It is considered one of the first comic strips. In the story, the bad boys make their village unsafe by pulling out seven regions, which make the villagers the victims. In the latter region, Max and Moritz are themselves victims and are fed to the ducks.

However, Efteling chose a different approach, in which it was mainly maintained that Max & Moritz are dangles, but that they were further placed in a new context. M&M are the sons of a clockmaker, Frau Schmetterling (German for Woman Butterfly). Grandpa's most beautiful clock hangs in her workshop. However, the gold winding key has been lost. M&M participate in a soap box race. They go wild and Moritz eventually ends up in the ditch. There he finds the golden key. Everyone is relieved and happy.
