07/52 Gaasperplas

52 Weeks Project

Last year I came up with the idea to take at least one '52-Weeks selfie' in every park in Amsterdam with at least a little importance. Gaasperpark along the Gaasperplas was never a location of this project before. Till now!

Location: Gaasperplas, Gaasperpark.

Coordinates: 52°18'24" N 4°59'30" E

Reason: On this beautiful sunny but quiet fresh morning on Valentine's day I wanted to take my weekly selfie on a sunny location. The above mentioned idea of chosing one of the Amsterdam parks took me to this wonderful place along the Gaasperplas.

Gaasperpark: The Gaasperpark is a park in Gaasperdam, district Amsterdam-Zuidoost, on the northern bank of the Gaasperplas, an artificial recreational lake, created by sand extraction for the raising of the construction of Gaasperdam. The Gaasperpark is part of Groengebied Amstelland.

The construction of the park started in 1977 for the Floriade of 1982. After the Floriade almost all additions were removed, leaving a simpler city park. A work of art consisting of six steel boxes at the former entrance is still there. A congress center was established in the planetarium building. At the Gaasperplas there is a water playground, a marina and several sunbathing areas. The Amsterdam city camping site Gaasper Camping is surrounded by the park.

The Gaasperplas metro station is located on the northeast side of the Gaasperpark. [ Wikipedia ]
