Amsterdam Light Festival

Amsterdam Light Festival is an annual light art festival in Amsterdam. Artists, architects and (light) designers from all over the world bring their light artworks and installations alive during the festival every winter. The artworks are placed alongside two routes. Each route has their own theme, set of artworks and visitor experience. Water Colors, the boat rout, displays big monumental objects and offers visitors the chance to experience the art from a water perspective. Illuminade, the walking route, shows interactive and innovative installations from upcoming designers in the Plantage neighborhood.

Celebrate winter, with art, light and water!

Flower Strip

Artist: Aether & Hemera (design studio)

Location: Herengracht

Every spring, the Netherlands bursts into vivid colors as bulbs shoot and thousands of flowers blossom. The Dutch landscape is complemented by beautiful stripes of color. Visitors from all over the world travel to The Netherlands to be able to experience rows of flowers stretching to the horizon.

Flower Strip from Aether & Hemera gives you the possibility to enjoy the same aesthetic of flowering bulbs in the winter months. The artwork gives the phenomenon a new context by using light and placing the flowers into the water of the Amsterdam Canal right next to the famous Ambassade Hotel.

Aether & Hemera is a multi disciplinary design studio. Their work lies at the intersection of contemporary installation art, light art and interaction design. Light and digital media are combined to create a space that connects people to their surroundings. The studio was founded by the Italian Gloria Ronchi and Claudio Bengi in 2008. Ronchi has a background in science and fine arts while Bengi studies media architecture. With their work they try to provoke memories, explore esthetic interactions and create a connection between human experiences.
