Cambridge Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant

Construction is underway at the Cambridge Water/Wastewater Treatment Plant, which Maryland Environmental Service operates for the City of Cambridge. The construction will upgrade the plant from a Biological Nutrient Removal (BNR) plant to an Enhanced Nutrient Removal (ENR) plant, an important component of Bay restoration efforts.

The first round of construction was to make repairs to two of the primary clarifiers; a pumping station used to pump up to the denitrification filters with an automatic screen to take out algae from the secondary clarifiers; and a building housing 40 denitrification filters and chemicals with two large air compressors. The construction is scheduled to be completed by the end of the year. The Cambridge WWTP is the largest plant operated by MES.
