027 PHARAOHS OF EGYPT - RAMESSES III (reign c. 1184–1153 BC). Museum of Fine Arts, Boston.

Head of king Ramses III.

From Karnak (Thebes), temple of Mut.

Dynasty 20 (c.1186–1070 BC).

Red Granite.

The head was once part of a colossal statue. which still stands in front of the temple of Ramses III at Karnak.

It is possible that the statue was reused and that it was originally made for Ramses' predecessors.

The idealized features may represent king Tutankhamun (c. 1336–1327 BC).
