Shepherd's Vigil Supper, a Still Life Narrative.

When composing a multi-object still-life, I like to follow some sort of mental narrative — it's very helpful in forming a coherent composition. For this shot, I'm imagining a lonely 1900s-era shepherd, out on the moors, in a shepherd's hut. He's just checked that his flock is all okay, and has returned to the tiny hut for a spot of rustic supper and a nice bottle of beer. Perhaps a storm is raging outside, and the hurricane lamp is the only source of light and comfort. Of course the provenance, age, etc of the objects are all a bit 'off' but that's okay, as the story's done its job and given structure to what could otherwise end up as a random pile of stuff! 4/5s at F4 ISO100 with 50mm lens (equiv. to 80mm on full-frame). Another appearance of my patented paper 'window effect' highlight modifier, seen on the beer bottle. We can pretend that that's moonlight as the full moon peaks out from behind the storm clouds.
