One of many 'turf houses' we passed whilst driving around the Westfjords. Torfbæir (Icelandic) are often entirely covered over in turf, although this one was only partly covered. They originate from the time of the earliest Viking settlers and were required due to a lack of alternative building materials like wood, (Iceland has very few trees)
