Broad-Leaf Plantain (Plantago) is Edible

One of the most common lawn weeds, it is highly nutritious and has strong medicinal properties. A common ingredient in healing salves. When you are hard up for a bit of fresh greenery (lettuce has very little nutrition, remember!), grab a few of these, wash well, and chop fine. Good raw or cooked. Mild flavor. Not so great alone for a salad, but small amounts mixed with other veg works fine. I had some last night--these, actually.

It also takes the pain out of insect bites/stings! Bruise leaf and rub on sore. Magic!

"Plantago is a genus of about 200 species of small, inconspicuous plants commonly called plantains or fleaworts . The common name plantain is shared with the unrelated cooking plantain , a kind of banana . Most are herbaceous plants , though a few are subshrubs growing to 60 cm (24 in) tall."--Wikipedia.
