Sunset over the Hnausapollur Craters, Highlands, Iceland
Well, I have been home for a couple of weeks now from my trip to Iceland shooting volcanic eruptions and the highlands but I must confess to spending a good three days sleeping as I felt pretty whacked after two weeks there during the summer with near 24 hours of daylight. The lack of darkness sure does mess with your head (or at least mine anyway).
However, once I had visited the eruption site on the Reykjanes Peninsula, my mind turned to a part of Iceland that I had yet to visit, the Highlands. So I traded in my Renault Traffic Campervan for a state of the art, super duper posh Land Rover Discovery (with a price to match, £2100 for eight days).
One of the places that I wanted to track down was this iconic view of these three stunning craters at Hnausapollur, located just ten kms north of the campsite at Landmannalaugar. w3w.co/rebutted.shavings.malting
So, at 10.30pm on this particular evening, I left my hotel (The Highland Centre) just up the road and ventured to this wonderful location. I parked up by the roadside in a layby and sent up the drone (DJi Mini 3 Pro). I spent a little bit of time flying at no more than permitted height of 120m and this is what I captured.
The sun was setting and the sky turned a gorgeous hue of yellow/orange while the light on the land was at its most subtle, almost glowing I would say. There is a shallow depth of field and because of this, I am considering upgrading to the Mavic 3 Pro (can anyone recommend it?).
Anyhow, my two weeks spent in Iceland were simply magical. Exhausting yes but utterly magical and the mountains of Landmannalaugar looked spectacular although sadly, I did not venture into them on this trip. Maybe next year when I am more prepared.
I hope you have a great weekend :D
