Mellifera K
Dianella brevicaulis
Coastal dunes, Cape Otway, Victoria, Australia.
I really love the story of buzz pollination that goes with this genus. As Mayfield (2006) describes it:
"Native bees buzz pollinate Dianella. The bee holds the struma with its feet. Muscular vibrations in its thorax cause the anther to shake and release pollen, through pores at the tip, onto the bee's body. A tuning fork of similar pitch, held near the anther, gives the same result"
