Monument
Prehistoric earthwork on the side of Hill of Tuach, Kintore, undergoing excavations led by Richard Bradley and Amanda Clarke.
Illegally planted over, the site has suffered extensive damage not only from roots and rabbits but also the terrible excavator Charles Dalrymple. Dalrymple had 'investigated' (i.e. destroyed) many sites in the area including Broomend of Crichie and Aikey Brae.
At some point after Dalrymple's romp the stone circle was broken up and removed and a dry stane dyke chopped off the entrance. The central stone was added much later from the quarries. At present, only the inner mound surrounded by a ditch can be seen.
