MTA Melbourne: 913 - 1946 class SW6 car at the Hawthorn - Balaclava grand union, Route 3
The Balaclava Road/Hawthorn Road intersection was a fascinating place to spend time, as the tram tracks incorporated a perfectly symmetrical grand union. Route 3 ran through east-west, route 64 ran north-south, route 65 used the east-to-south curves and 69 the east-to-north while the occasional out-of-service car would use the other curves. The 65, which was peak hours only, has since been withdrawn and the 69 has been renumbered 16.
