London Transport: SMS632 (EGN632J) from Norbiton Garage in Bridge Road, East Molesey on Route 211
Built 1971 AEC Swift 4MP2R MCW B33D
In September 1971 route 131 was split with the Kingston to Walton section being replaced by a new route 211, overlapping the 131 as far as West Molesey and following the same roads so the combined frequency was about the same as before. Here SMS632 is practically brand new as it serves this first iteration of route 211.
Today this scene is little changed. There is still a bench to sit on although the design is different. The parade of shops with the spectacular chimneys still stands. Molesey's primary bus route is the 411, Kingston to West Molesey only, funded both by TfL and Surrey County Council and providing a better service than anything I remember in the sixties and seventies.
