The Membranes: Songs of Love and Fury

There were many good English noise bands in the mid-1980s, but few had the originality, charm and sense of humour of The Membranes. This was before Steve Albini came along and introduced noise to the American rock audience - I always thought he took himself too seriously.

Anti-comedian Ted Chippington appears as one of the guest "singers" on this album. He was the anti-comedians' anti-comedian. And then there is Keith Curtis, from the brilliant A Witness, playing guitar or bass on 4 of the tracks.

The splendid cover art is by Simon Clegg.
