Oyaki the Hyrax

Canon 80D + 70-200mm f4L IS

Ok so usually I would not upload a picture from a zoo. I prefer my wildlife photography to be, well, wild. HOWEVER.

About 2 years ago, Instagram started to show me hyrax videos. I hit like, so it showed me more. And more. And more and more until now like 20% of my feed is these little guys. So when I heard they had one at the Joyama Zoo in Nagano, I knew I had to go. This little cutie is named Oyaki. She came right up to me.

I also got to see firsthand how awful Japanese zoos are. The hyrax enclosure was fine, but some of the others were dirty, small, and had little for the animals to do. Luckily this zoo was free so I can say I didn't give them money. Although if I could donate directly to Oyaki, I would.
