Gangsta Dayz!

Whilst being chronically unemployable in my camera trainee role i'm trying to improve some of the basic photographic gubbins that i've either taken for granted or been too lazy to do in the past. For the last couple of days that's meant digging out a lot of old negatives, discovering which of them were actually good, which were better than i'd thought and which were a load of old baboons. If there's anyone reading this who shoots film but has only ever scanned negative my advice would be to print it and see how much you've actually got in there! My scanner shows me half the shadow detail I get from the enlarging. I still haven't entered the world of dodging or burning but it must only be a matter of time. A lot my negatives need it!

I'm now sitting next to a pile of wildly varied 7x9 prints that've taught me a lot about how I shoot film and how I should do it in the future. All this to the wonderful soundtrack of all of the old Adam and Joe podcasts that i've amassed over the last few months! Now I have to sit down, adjust to the light and get over my fixative hangover with the help of half price Dominos (courtesy of my NHS employers).
