Jim Blob Blann
Take Your Marks (Token First Effort Landmark)
Photogram
This is the first result from my new enlarger and darkroom set - recently aquired along with a fridge full of film and paper as well as all the darkroom equipment I could need all for £75! The seller in question being a local photographer and digital convert. The guide on enlarging I read suggested doing photograms first so me and Jo have been making these all day with little signs of improvement. No real thought went into this beyond 'Ooh that might look cool! And them!' but it was fun :) We're doing something wrong I just don't know what yet :) Those blobs (and the thumbprint) were not really intended but it was so much fun seeing that image appear. Can't wait to get into some more and hopefully produce something that isn't just rubbish :)
For more actually good photogram work have a look at Laszlo Moholy-Nagy
If anyone out there in flickrland knows any tips for success then i'd love to hear them! Here's basically a list of possible problems:
- Possible out of date developer/stopper/fixer
- Dodgey dark room.
- Not knowing how long to expose or leave in developer
- Amount of agitation.
Basically this one had initially very low contrast which I upped a bit in photoshop but if i'd left it any longer in the developer then it would've gone completely black (because I tried that too). Boo, now I need a mentor!
