Sun Beams inside Antelope Canyon!!

Yes, It has been photographed Millions of times by hundreds of photographers. So what? I wanted to be there in person and experience the beauty of what Mother Nature can do when she is in a good mood.

Antelope Canyon, located in the town of Page, Az is one such marvel. Antelope Canyon is the most-visited and most-photographed slot canyon in the American Southwest. It is located on Navajo land near Page, Arizona. Antelope Canyon includes two separate, photogenic slot canyon sections, referred to individually as Upper Antelope Canyon or The Crack; and Lower Antelope Canyon or The Corkscrew.

So when we decided on a trip out west, I decided that I was not going to pass up on this and I'm now glad that I didn't.

The Canyons are not a State or a national park. It is owned and operated by the Natives. So you have to play their rules. You are mandated to take a tour guide along with you all the time and the tours are limited to a maximum of 2 hours. That is for the photography tour where each of those 4 companies take about 10 people max into the canyon per trip. We, a group of 4 people, went on the photo tour hoping that it would get us a teeny weeny bit of extra time for the grandeur of the canyon to sink in as I kept on reading all over the internet that the normal tours are rushed upon real quick. That turned out to be a really good decision as well as the place was over crowded since it was the 4th of July weekend.

The guide was co-operative and she gave some important tips to photograph the Canyon. They did a decent job of keeping people out of the way. Although I wasn't completely satisfied, I could understand that certain things were beyond control on a holiday weekend. So if you want to be at peace, you might have to try out going on a weekday, I guess.

Summer is the best time to photograph the Antelope Canyon. This is the time of the year when the ubiquitous sun beams are all round the place. And gladly for lazy bums like me, they are not out there until the middle of the day. 11:30 AM to 12:30AM is supposedly the best time to photograph them. Our Photography tour took us in right at 11 AM and we were there until about 12:15.

I think that I have made justice in capturing the beauty! Let me know what do you think!
