Irvin A Meyer, 1915-2013

Good-bye to Irv Meyer

RIP Irv Meyer, who passed away peacefully at home on Saturday, October 19, 2013. A stalwart of the Wading River community, Irv, a professional-level photographer and glass blower at Brookhaven National Laboratory, was also a welcome, contributing member to the Wading River Historical Society and Civic Association, Wading River Field and Tennis Club, Wading River Beach Club and, especially, of Wading River Congregational Church, which he joined in 1948! Irv was born June 5, 1915 and, until his death, was active in taking pictures of people and places in Wading River. Some of his most famous photographs involved Irv going up in an airplane to take aerial views of the hamlet he loved. Irv visited the schools in the district to do glass-blowing demonstrations, a craft he learned during World War II when he created glass test tubes for what is now Brookhaven National Laboratory. Here, Irv is pictured here, in 2011, giving a glass blowing demonstration to the Rocky Point Historical Society. Irv was also a sought-after singer and his tenor graced many local weddings and other events. Irv was pre-deceased by his wife, Madeline (Maddy) and sons, Gary and Lee. Irv Meyer reposed at the Alexander-Tuthill Funeral Home in Wading River. He had a memorial service on Wednesday, October 23, 2013, at the Congregational Church after which, Irv Meyer, 98, was laid to his final rest at Wading River Cemetery.
