NCO/Soldier Competition
Four Soldiers competed in the Maryland Army National Guard Soldier and Non-Commissioned Officer Best Warrior Competition March 16-18 at Camp Fretterd and Gunpowder Military Reservations.
Sgt. 1st Class Kevin McCluskey, Recruiting and Retention Battalion, won the NCO of the Year award for Maryland, while Sgt. Charles Tucker, Headquarters and Headquarter Troop, 1-158th Calvary Regiment, won the Soldier of the Year award.
The candidates participated in multiple events and received points for how well the task was accomplished. The winners were determined based on the amount of points received by the end of the competition. The events consisted of an Army Physical Fitness Test; shoot/no-shoot training; day land navigation; a 7-Mile road march; warrior tasks and battle drills such as weapon maintenance, self-aid and buddy care, chemical and biological skill tasks, and communication tasks; as well as an appearance in front of a board.
