SYP Team Deployment Ceremony
More than 35 members of the Maryland Army National Guard will deploy as part of the international Security Assistance Force (ISAF) Joint Command -Security Partnering II (SYPII). The SYP team consists of Maryland National Guard Soldiers combined with approximately 30 Soldiers from the Virginia National Guard. The Maryland contingent is comprised of Soldiers assigned to the 29th Infantry Division augmented by Soldiers from Joint Forces Headquarters and other units across Maryland. The Soldiers will spend several weeks conducting pre-mobilization training at Camp Shelby, Miss. before deploying to Afghanistan. The mobilization is expected to last one year.
