Spectacular Wild Imperfection: Glowing Lotus

We came across this Lotus growing wild in a marshland in May last year. I had to trudge through the mud to take a picture of it. It was already past sundown and I had to use a flash - one of those good accidents, as it gave a black background. It is less perfect than it's carefully cultivated cousins in gardens, but nevertheless breathtaking. This is NOT a water lily, but a completely different species. All parts of the flower are edible, and it is also referred to as the "Bean of India" . Native to Tropical Asia and Queensland, Australia, it is commonly cultivated in water gardens. It is also the national flower of India and Vietnam. It was taken in the early stage of my photographic journey, so the aperture was a bit soft, but enough is in focus to enjoy the beauty of this flower.
