Every girl's nightmare this one. It was known as 'the pyramid' and was the final display at every prize giving. the smallest senior stood at the top - this would certainly have been me had I stayed at school till school leaving age. And I have absolutely *no* head for heights. Volunteering was not an option - you were chosen for it. Today I doubt it would be allowed - it proves very little was given in the way of not allowing us to be 'excused' from any activity, even though a fall may have caused irreversible sight loss - such was discipline in 1950s and 60s special educational establishments
