Küppersmühle Duisburg
The Küppersmühle Museum (MKM) is a striking industrial monument from the 19th century, which was built as a mill and operated as such until its closure in 1972. Based on the master plan for Duisburg's inner harbor developed by British architect Sir Norman Foster, the former industrial wasteland was transformed into a multifunctional service area on the waterfront as part of the international building exhibition Emscher Park (1989-1999) - with office and residential space, restaurants, cultural and leisure facilities. The Küppersmühle became the MKM Museum Küppersmühle for Modern Art. Basel architects Herzog & de Meuron were commissioned with the conversion.
