India - Jaipur - 022 - inner courtyard of the Amber fort during monsoon

A lush inner courtyard drenched by an afternoon monsoon shower. The palace was built as a defensive fortification first and is a maze of twisting corridors, narrow stairways and unexpected low ceilings or high thresholds. This confusing layout and hidden obstaces is itself the last line of defense of the Maharaja since anyone attempting to sneak in will have trouble doing so quickly and quietly.
